Last week, Airbnb proudly sponsored SFMade Week, an annual fundraising event and celebration of San Francisco’s vibrant manufacturing community at Anchor Brewery. The event showcased products made here in San Francisco and the people who make them.
Airbnb makes great strides to support local businesses through business to business procurement. In fact, last year Airbnb spent more than $1.5 million dollars on procurement of goods just from businesses that are part of the SFMade organization. By purchasing local goods, Airbnb is able to directly support independent makers and manufacturers in our hometown. One of those local manufacturers is Mark Dwight, CEO of Rickshaw Bags and Co-Founder of SFMade.
“The most direct and efficient investment companies can make in our community is to purchase locally made goods and services,” says Dwight. “Local purchasing preserves local jobs, and keeps the dollars in our local economy. We are proud to provide our locally made bags to the employees of Airbnb.”
Airbnb works closely with Rickshaw to purchase handmade bags that beautifully fits our brand into his unique design style. We also collaborate with local business Social Imprints, who produces clothing for our employees and for external events. Social Imprints’ Owner Kevin McCracken remarks on the evening:
“Social Imprints loves participating in SFMade events, it gives us the opportunity to see our community in the SF Manufacturing Community show off their hard work. SFMade week is the perfect example of bringing the SF Community together to celebrate our great manufacturing sector!”
Beyond our procurement of manufactured goods we also work closely with several SFMade food and beverage purveyors, purchasing nearly half a million dollars from companies like Four Barrel Coffee, De La Paz, Five Mountains Tea, Anchor Brewery, Joyride, and 4505 meats.
In San Francisco, we’re committed to support our local businesses. Purchasing locally supports the community and is a great way to utilize the innovative and first-rate products that businesses in San Francisco are producing.
